With BCS standings out, every week is crucial

When it comes to NCAA football betting, the season gets insane as time goes by as teams are jockeying for position in the all-important BCS standings. In this week’s three to watch, four of the teams are ranked, while the other two can make some noise in one of the polls.

No.13 Penn State at Michigan – 3:30 PM ET

The Nittany Lions haven’t given up more than 17 points in a game this year, but they’re facing a team that has had their number recently. Last year’s 46-17 win over the Wolverines broke a nine-game losing skid by Penn State in this rivalry, and the Wolverines are coming off a 63-6 dismantling of Delaware State. Have we mentioned that Penn State has lost five in a row at Michigan’s “Big House”?

Sports pick: Michigan +4.5

No.8 TCU at No.16 BYU – 7:30 PM ET

BYU is hoping to end any chances their fellow “BCS busters” may have, and both are in the top 16 nationally in terms of points scored. The Horned Flogs thumped the Cougars 32-7 at home last year, but BYU has won four of their six meetings overall. TCU’s fourth-ranked defense will have a tough time in LaVell Edwards Stadium, where BYU has won nine of their last 10 games.

Sports pick: BYU +2

No.3 Texas at Missouri – 8:00 PM ET

There’s no trap game here: the Longhorns are ready to roar after just barely getting by Oklahoma in a defensive-minded “Red River Shootout”. The Tigers have lost two straight, and Blaine Gabbert is looking like a quarterback who is getting used to playing top-notch competition after rolling over the non-conference portion of their schedule. The Longhorns have won five in a row against the Tigers, and their much-improved defense will be the story against a limping Gabbert.

Northbet.com pick: Texas -14
