Cowboys can’t be trusted on a weekly basis
A few weeks ago, the Cowboys were on the ropes. Suddenly, after knocking off the Falcons on Sunday, Dallas is a 9.5 favorite over the Seattle Seahawks. But are the Cowboys ready to be trusted?
Dallas made short work of the Falcons last week, winning 37-21 and improving to 4-2. All the bad memories of the first part of the season were seemingly swept under the rug, and Cowboy fever is catching on with sports betters. Why?
Just two games ago, Dallas needed overtime to squeak past the woeful Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs (1-6) are allowing over 25 points per outing this season, yet the Cowboys could only muster 13—despite a 350-yard performance from Tony Romo.
Romo, of course, it the biggest reason Dallas can’t be trusted with your NFL picks. His overall numbers look nice on the surface but he’s been wildly inconsistent. Romo is prone to brutal mental errors and as he goes, the Cowboys go. It’s no surprise He has just one turnover—a lost fumble—in Dallas’ four victories.
For Romo to be successful Dallas must employ a dominant running game. The Cowboys have the horses to do this, but they never seem to be healthy. NFL betting fans hold their breath whenever Felix Jones touches the ball, as he’s a threat to score or sprain something at any given moment. Marion Barber is one of the best running backs in the NFL when healthy, something that’s happening fewer and farther between.
The Dallas defense, admittedly, is righting the ship. DeMarcus Ware and company were failing to put any sort of pressure on the quarterback. Ware notched 20 sacks last year to lead the NFL but was kept off the score sheet through the first four games. He’s racked up four in his last two outings, though, and the Dallas “D” is reaping the benefits.
That said, Romo is simply too unpredictable to trust this team when sports betting. Dallas may very well win 10 games and qualify for the playoffs, but it will do so in bizarre, painful fashion.
